About Mount Airy

Mount Airy, North Carolina, is a great little town to visit for the day or for the weekend. It is known by its nickname, The Granite City, but that's not the main reason you'd come to visit!  Many travel here from miles around because of the Andy Griffith Show, as Mayberry was based on Mount Airy (where Andy grew up) and is the reason many people refer to our town as "Mayberry". However, others come because of all of the fantastic attractions Mount Airy has to offer.

Historical downtown not only has museums, shopping, wineries, theaters, and restaurants, but it also features many fantastic festivals throughout the year. Plus, there are beautiful B&Bs and cabins nearby to spend the weekend at for a fun getaway.

Mount Airy is less than 2 hours from Charlotte and Boone, and only minutes from the Virginia border, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stone Mountain State Park, Pilot Mountain and North Carolina's fabulous wine country. The views surrounding Mount Airy are beautiful examples of the rolling foothills surrounding the city as well as scenic vistas towards Pilot Mountain.

Whether you are coming to experience NC Wine country and our unique festivals, a Mayberry fan, or are just driving through and looking for a fun place to spend the night, Mount Airy is the perfect destination for a visit, as well as a bustling hub of entertainment and fun. Come to Mount Airy and see why our town is a great place for your next vacation (or home!).
