Wine lovers take note! If traveling along the I-77 corridor in North Carolina, Mount Airy has some fantastic wineries and and wine shops you won't want to miss. Check below to learn about some of the experiences at our unique tasting rooms. The list is in order by location, with the closest winery located right off of I-77 (Hwy 89 exit), and the rest, heading towards downtown Mount Airy... and beyond.

Round Peak Vineyard is located minutes from I-77 off of exit 100 (Hwy 89), at 765 Round Peak Church Rd. The cute and colorful tasting room offers a wide variety of award-winning, dry to sweet wines from (Italian and French) grapes grown in their vineyard. They also offer a large selection of bottled craft beers. The scenery is outstanding from the covered patio out back, where you can enjoy seating with friends. The grill is available for your use as well so bring a picnic, grill out and enjoy the views. Traveling with your dog? Round Peak has a fenced in area for pets to enjoy. RV's and bus tours are welcome too (call ahead) with plenty of room for parking. The newly renovated Winery House is now available for rentals. The Winery House is available for rent at Round Peak Vineyards. This 4 bedroom ranch house is the perfect getaway for families, couples or a romantic getaway for two. Sleeps 6-10 people. Un'Corked in Mayberry is a wine shop and wine bar located at 126 N Main Street in historical downtown Mount Airy that has a variety of Yadkin Valley and West Coast wines for purchase by the bottle or glass. You can also do tastings of featured wines that vary with each visit. Besides the wine bar, there is a cozy area with seating in front of a huge, stone fireplace. Un'Corked has their own special wine labeled with fun Mayberry names, making these wine bottles great souvenirs. Lots of great gifts and wine memorabilia, along with fun shirts and hats for wine-lovers. They can also create beautiful gift baskets. After-hours parties can be booked for special events.

Old North State Winery & Brewery can be found in a 1980's mercantile building at 308 N Main Street, downtown Mount Airy, and offers wine and beer tasting 7 days a week. Brushy Mountain Winery is located in historical downtown Elkin on Main Street, near the Reeves Theater. You can find them open during Fridays & Saturdays (12-6pm) and also during festivals that are downtown (The Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival) or special evening downtown events. Run by the Mayberry's who have a long family history in Elkin, they offer a nice variety of award winning wines and a cozy, fun atmosphere to relax in. Stop in for some famous Booger Swamp Wine, which was mentioned on Jay Leno, or Sweet Lou, a wonderful dessert wine, plus many award winning wines to enjoy. Carolina Heritage Vineyard is the only certified organic vineyard in the Southeast... and they are also solar powered. Full of interesting innovations, local pottery, live bluegrass music most summer weekends, and delicious wines, they also are available for wedding and party rentals. Stop in on weekends (Saturday/Sunday) for tastings, but if you want to try a tasting during the week, feel free to give them a call at 336-366-3301. Elkin Creek Vineyard is under new ownership and the two couples who now own it are fun, friendly and are good cooks to boot. They offer stone-fired pizzas on Sundays, so if you plan to stop in then, give a call a day or two before to reserve your pizza. They make the dough on Saturday and like to prepare enough for all to enjoy. The wines are delicious as well, and they are situated along Elkin Creek (River) with an historic mill on the property. You can walk the property and enjoy the cozy countryside or swing on a swing down by the creek. Many weddings are booked here and you'll see why when you stop in for a visit! Grassy Creek Vineyard is located a few minutes north of Elkin off of Hwy 21 (on the way to Sparta). They are situated on an old dairy farm and the tasting room used to be the stables. Now it is a gorgeous tasting room nestled by an old hunting lodge (with cabins available for rent) and offers wooded walking trails to explore with a glass of wine. A variety of fantastic events occur here during the year. They are most known for hosting great bands, many who come up from WInston-Salem to play. Winter events with bonfires and s'mores are events you must make the trip here for. They have become a locals' favorite and terrific venue for hosting car shows, 5K events, and more. Slightly Askew Winery is not your typical winery. They import juices and concentrates from all over the world, and create their own unusually delicious versions of your favorite wines, on site. With almost 30 different wine selections to choose from, you'll find a huge variety of dry, semi-dry and sweet wines which makes this a great stop over for large groups, or if you are a couple who can't seem to agree on the same type of wine to drink.
